Self Motivation In Lasting Endorphins
Having its origins from Walton Pain clinic in Liverpool, S.M.I.L.E. has developed into a growing network of Chronic Pain Support groups. I currently teach at two S.M.I.L.E groups in Preston and Blackpool.
I am very proud to be the Pilates Teacher for S.M.I.L.E (Preston) - the self-help group for Chronic Pain Sufferers, based in St. Martins Church Hall, Fulwood, Preston. Our first class was April 2008.
Once a month I take the group through a gentle yet stimulating Pilates session which is suitable for both member who can get to the floor and those who prefer to remain seated.

This newly established self help group covering the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas has recently added Pilates to their list of activities. I am able to modify and adapt a Pilates class so that it is suitable for everyone with chronic pain.
The group is run by chronic pain sufferers for chronic pain sufferers and we are supported by the Pain Management Programme at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and S.M.I.L.E the charity based in Liverpool.
Chronic pain sufferers often feel isolated and depressed, by coming together on a regular basis we feel more able to share our feelings and concerns and to encourage a positive attitude.
Our aim is to support another. We meet once a week for a friendly chat and to carry out a program of gentle exercises, low impact exercise and relaxation. This is a continuation of the regime created by the pain management program of which most of us have been able to attend.
We enjoy a coffee (or tea) and always have fun and laughter. Its good to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE
