Jubilee Jaunt - Sunday 26th March, 10am
Let's roam around the moors of my home town, Darwen, on the West Pennine Moors.
Standing 86 feet tall with two viewing platforms, Darwen Tower as the locals call it, or to give it its official name 'Jubilee Tower', celebrates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1989.
Wind damage has been repaired in the last year and is back to its magnificent splendour, and was also a focal point for the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum celebrations.
The West Pennine Moors has a special place in my heart - I've lost count of the number of times I've walked to the Tower, mainly through the two parks - Bold Ventre Parks - again a fabulous Victorian addition.
We will start our walk outside Bold Venture Park, walk through both Lower & Upper parks, onto the West Pennine Moors, and to the tower.
The walk is approx 2 hours, and the walk is graded as 'easy' - we will take our time, enjoy the views and stop for a snack/coffee.
